Hi everyone,
My name is Samantha Goble and I'm so excited to participate in this year's fashion expo!  As an Environmental Science major and an aspiring environmental geologist, I think this is a great learning experience and challenge for anyone participating.  Even though I'm not your typical fashion student I have always been drawn to anything artistic.  I'm an artist of many trades but I enjoy painting, sewing, crocheting, and jewelry making the most.  I'm also planning on earning my lapidary and metalsmithing certifications after I get my degree because I've always wanted to learn how to make fine jewelry and beads professionally.  I try to incorporate all of my skills when I sew new clothes and other textile-based items, like painting on fabrics, crocheting textiles and edgings, and beading the hell out of finished pieces.  I can't wait to put my skills to the test this year!

Because jumpsuits are my favorite thing to wear, I made one for this year's fashion expo.  I mostly shop second-hand and have a massive collection of ethnic textiles and boldly colored outfits that I want to make into new pieces.
My jumpsuit reflects this year's theme because I'm only using supplies and materials that I found in second-hand stores.  Many people don't know this but anything that isn't sold at thrift stores will be dumped in landfills, even if they are quality items.  A lot of what is dumped is clothing and textiles that could have either been donated or used again.  Some companies even destroy these items by ripping them up or pouring toxic chemicals on them before they are dumped in a dumpster to deter people from taking them for free.  This makes me mad and is the main reason I'm participating in this year's fashion expo.
