I am pursuing a certificate in Fashion Design and am also interested in getting certificates in Fashion Merchandising and Image Consultant since many classes overlap. My background in art (BA Illustration at CSULB), experiences working in e-commerce, and taking fashion classes at Fullerton College have prepared me with skills and knowledge that I need to start my own business. I am currently running my business on Amazon, selling knit sweater tops and cardigans at amazon.com/comfyworld. I want to continue learning, whether it be taking more classes, running a business, getting internship in the industry, getting another job, or participating in Fashion Event, to essentially aspire to become better self.
I am using an Emergency Thermal Blanket, a material designed for emergency situations such as outdoor survival, to create a fashion garment. The blanket's metallic and reflective properties will give the garments a unique and futuristic look. To ensure that the garments maintain their pleated structure, double-sided tape and heat press will be used instead of sewing. The use of thick paper to support the waistband and straps will add strength to the garments.
The use of a mylar material, originally designed by NASA for space exploration, reflects the "Technology in Fashion" theme by demonstrating the crossover between technology and fashion. The mylar material's insulating properties, which help retain body heat, make it suitable for use in outdoor activities, while its reflective surface makes it useful for signaling and warning. The symmetrical design and art deco style of the garments add to their futuristic and technological appearance.
